Police issue update on arrest after boy and girl, both 15, stabbed in street

A teenager who was arrested after a boy and girl, both aged 15, were stabbed on a street in Salford has been bailed, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene of the incident on Whittle Street in Walkden at around 11.30pm on Friday, March 10. The teenage boy and girl were taken to hospital with knife wounds.

Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said. A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent in connection with the incident.

In an update issued today (March 16), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said he had since been bailed. After the incident, neighbours told the Manchester Evening News how they heard 'screaming' and woke up to blood-splattered vehicles on the street.

One of the residents, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "I was in the bathroom and all I heard was the banging on someone's car. It was ours. There was a bit of blood on it as well."

Another resident, Gary Carney, said: "I came out and I could hear this shouting of 'no... no... argh'. I heard something banging against a window. I came out but I couldn't see anything, I just heard a lot of mayhem.

"As I was walking back to the door I heard a police siren and thought 'oh right, there's something going on'. I just thought it was maybe drunkenness, but this morning we found out about it, we saw it on the M.E.N."

A section 60 order for increased stop and search powers was also put in place after the incident, with patrols stepped up in the local area. Inspector Rod Ashton, of GMP's Salford District, said: "The kind of incident that happened last night won't be tolerated and GMP will take robust action to ensure that our communities feel safe and that the offender is brought to justice."
