Police issue update into 'targeted incident' after a man was shot in the leg in Wigan

Detectives say no arrests have been made after a man was shot in the leg during a disturbance in Wigan last week.

Officers were called to Crabtree Road in Wigan at around 8.30pm last Saturday (June 19) to a report of a shooting.

It is believed the incident followed on from a disturbance on Ridyard Street earlier that day.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man had suffered 'life-changing injuries' after being shot in the leg.

The man, 34, remains in hospital in a critical condition.

An investigation is ongoing and detectives are now asking for anyone who was nearby or who may have been visiting the area to get in touch with information.

Detective Inspector John Davies, from GMP's Wigan district, said: "Enquiries are at a relatively early stage of the investigation however, it is believed that this is a targeted incident at this time.

"As we piece together information that will help bring those responsible to justice, I would urge anyone who lives or was visiting the area on the afternoon of Saturday 19 June, and has any CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident which may have happened on Ridyard Street prior to the shooting, to contact us."

Anyone with information should call 0161 856 7257 quoting incident 3060 of 19/06/2021.
