Police have issued an update on a woman attacked by dogs.

The victim, in her 20s, was walking on Hazelfield Court in St Helens at around 11pm on Monday (May 15) when she was attacked by two dogs. The woman suffered serious injuries to her arms and was taken to hospital.

She was described as being in a serious but stable condition. The dogs were detained and in an update today, police said officers are still trying to establish the breed.

Police also said the woman still remains in hospital with her injuries. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: "This incident has left a woman with significant injuries to her arms and it would have been an extremely painful and traumatic experience. Residents who live on the street attempted to help the victim during the attack and I thank them for their brave actions.

“Following enquiries we have been able to locate the dogs and they have been detained for the safety of the community. We are now appealing for anyone who has information to come forward.
