Police issue update after man is hit by train on Ayrshire line

A man struck by a train yesterday afternoon was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

As emergency services dealt with the incident, train services between Ayrshire and Glasgow were affected and replacement bus services were put in place.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Howwood station at 2.50pm (on Thursday, September 26) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended and a person was taken to hospital for treatment. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Scotrail spokesperson added: “Some services have been subject to delay and alteration. Sadly this is due to a person being struck by a train.”

According to Scotrail’s twitter feed, the line between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour Street was reopened just ahead of the rush hour last night.

Passengers were also thanked for their ‘patience and understanding following this sad incident’.

Services got back to normal in the early evening.
