Police issue update after man found in street with head injury

Merseyside Police have issued an update on a man who was found in the street with a "head injury" on New Year's Day.

Officers were called to Bridge Road, Prescot, at 6.15am on Sunday, January 1, following reports a man was found injured in the street. On arrival police found a man, in his 50s, who had sustained a head injury.

The man was taken to hospital and parts of Bridge Road and Warrington Road were closed by police as they investigated the incident. A police spokesperson said it was "not clear" how the man sustained the injury.

Police have now given an update to say the man is in a stable condition. They also said the incident is not being treated as a police matter and is not being investigated further.

At the time of the incident a neighbour at the scene said they were "woken by sirens" at around 6.30am but had "no idea" there was a police incident happening just outside her front door.

One man who has lived in Prescot for 28 years said: "I got up at half six and went to the toilet and saw flashing blue lights everywhere and my misses went out to have a look. No doubt it was something serious judging by the police presence and the ambulances.

"It's a real shock."
