West Yorkshire Police say the 20-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation.

Shane Grimes died after he was hit by a blue Skoda Fabia, which was travelling away from Leeds, at 10.58pm on Saturday, July 13.

In from a friend, the 30-year-old was described as a 'well loved' and 'care free lad' who had recently 'turned his life around'.

The Skoda had been travelling away from Leeds towards the Stanningley bypass and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the Skoda immediately before the collision and the manner in which it was being driven to come forward.

Witness Zac Perry posted on Facebook: "I witnessed a young gentleman die tonight from a RTC on Stanningley Road in Leeds.

"Can't really give any more details but the young gentleman passed away at the scene after 30mins of CPR.

"Had to use my spare photography backdrop to make a privacy curtain while people tried to revive him.

"A community came together tonight from different ethnic and religious backgrounds to help a stranger fight for his life."

He added: "At least the guy had some privacy and modesty before he sadly passed away.

Police are still investigating the fatal collision and urging witnesses to come forward.
