Police issue update after major collision closes road for air ambulance

Nottinghamshire Police have issued an update on the condition of a cyclist following a collision which closed a major road near Worksop .

Police officers and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance were called to the A57 between Sandy Lane and the A1 roundabout at 1.39pm on March 4 after a van and a cyclist collided .

Part of the road was completely closed in both directions to allow the ambulance to land, and the cyclist was air-lifted to Sheffield Northern General Hospital.

Nottinghamshire Police have issued an update on the cyclist's condition, who remains in hospital with injuries that are "not believed to be life-threatening".

A spokesman for the force said: "The road reopened yesterday evening. [Their] condition is unchanged, and is not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-altering."

The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after the road was closed, with a spokesperson for the charity confirming that it was on scene within 10 minutes of the call.

A spokesperson said: “On Wednesday, March 4, the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance was dispatched to a road traffic collision on the A57 near Worksop.

“Our Air Ambulance arrived in just 10 minutes, a journey that by land could have taken up to an hour.

"Our crew treated a patient on scene before airlifting them to Sheffield Northern General Hospital in just nine minutes, a journey that by land could have taken up to 40 minutes."
