Police have issued a statement after two people were seen 'waving guns' in a residential Nottingham street.
Armed officers were called to Church Street in Lenton at around 8pm on Tuesday, December 14, by residents who saw two men pointing guns at each other.
Two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence following the incident, it has been confirmed.
In response to the incident, locals have branded the "reckless" actions of those involved as "absolute stupidity".
Following residents' concerns, police have reassured the public that "the incident wasn’t as serious as was initially reported".
Detective Chief Inspector Rich Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Nottinghamshire Police treats all reports of firearms offences very seriously and, as shown in this case, officers respond swiftly to anyone purported to be carrying weapons in public.
“Police quickly contained the area and arrested the two men involved. Officers also recovered two Airsoft pellet guns.
“It was reported they were chasing and pointing the guns at each other. It has now been established that the incident wasn’t as serious as was initially reported and there was no wider risk to the public.
“The men have been interviewed over their reckless behaviour and after we carried out thorough enquiries into the circumstances they were given penalty notices for disorder and warned about their future conduct.”
