Police issue statement on armed raid at Crowne Plaza hotel in Leeds

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences after armed police carried out a raid at a four-star hotel in Leeds.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police entered Crowne Plaza Leeds, in Wellington Street, at around 6.30am on Thursday, March 5, as part of a planned operation.

They arrested a man in his 40s and he is being questioned in police custody.

Police remain on the scene and officers are conducting a search of the man's room.

A police spokesman said: "Shortly before 6.30am this morning armed officers carried out a planned operation at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Wellington Street, and arrested a man on suspicion of firearms offences.

"The man, aged in his 40s, has been taken into custody and a scene is in place at a room in the hotel to undergo a search."
