Police have issued a safety warning to the public after receiving reports of children playing on a frozen pond on Saturday (December 17). In an update on Twitter, Avon and Somerset Police said it had received multiple calls from members of the public concerning the incident, which did not state an exact location.
Parts of the country have been hit with sub-zero temperatures throughout the week causing many lakes and ponds to freeze over. The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings throughout the week forewarning the icy conditions.
On Twitter, the warning read: "SAFETY WARNING: This afternoon our control room have been receiving multiple calls concerning children playing on a frozen pond."

Police also offered advice asking people to "give sufficient safety advice to children around the dangers of this" and to call 999 if they witness children playing on a frozen pond. Avon and Somerset Police covers Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
The safety warning comes in the wake of the Solihull tragedy where four children died after falling into a freezing lake. A six-year-old boy became the fourth child to die who had been fighting for his life in hospital since the incident at Babbs Mill Lake, near Birmingham, last Sunday. Police announced the deaths of three other boys on Monday. They were aged eight, 10 and 11.
In Liverpool, a video went viral after a group of 10 people slid across a frozen lake days after the tragedy.
