Police issue prison warning to those caught carrying knives

Police have warned that those caught carrying knives face time behind bars.

The PSNI has spoken out after two people were arrested on Wednesday on Millburn Road, Coleraine.

Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police said more young people are now carrying knives including kitchen knives and hunting knives to 'protect themselves' or to use against others.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "To most people knives have always been associated with the kitchen or with food and inside our trouser or coat pockets we kept our money, and mobile phones.

"Whether it be a scare tactic, a joke or used or carried with the intent of seriously harming or killing someone it'll be you doing the prison time if you're caught with it.

"Would you like to be walking home happily only to be approached and threatened with a knife?

"All it takes is one wrong move or decision to either end your life or end someone else's so don't take the risk.

"If you do it'll be a prison cell you'll be sat in for a long time and a very heavy conscience that you'll have to cope with for the rest of your life."

The two teens, aged 13 and 14, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
