Police issue ‘do not approach’ warning after prisoner escapes from Manchester hospital

Police are searching for a prisoner who escaped from hospital in Manchester.

Marwan Jumaa, 20, had been transferred from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester Hospital for medical treatment on Tuesday evening.

The prisoner, who is deemed to be a risk to himself and others, is serving a prison sentence for attacking two women.

Jumaa is believed to have links to Bury, Prestwich and Crumpsall in Greater Manchester, as well as Leeds and London.

Police have launched an urgent appeal for information and are warning the public not to approach him, but to call 999 immediately if they see him.

Jumaa is described as Black, about 5ft 10ins tall, and of skinny build with short dark hair.

Detective Chief Inspector Abigail Cronin, from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), said: “We are urging anybody to come forward who may have information about Marwan’s whereabouts.

“I recognise that this may heighten concern within the community. However, I want to assure you that we have officers working around the clock to find Marwan and return him to hospital as soon as possible.

“If sighted, do not approach him, please call 999 immediately, quoting log number 3544 of 14/07/2026.”
