Police issue dispersal order in part of Wigan - week after officers broke up 'large event'

Police have issued a dispersal order for part of Wigan a week after they were called to break up a 'large event'.

The order will apply to the Platt Bridge area of town and will give officers extra powers to move on anyone not if they are gathering in large numbers.

It will apply for 24 hours from noon on Saturday, September 26.

The order comes after officers were called to the area on Saturday last week and had to ask a large group of people to leave because they were not following coronavirus guidelines on gatherings of more than six people.

It was one of a number of events that police were called to attend last week, including a party in Blackley and an incident at a house in Farnworth, Bolton.

In a post on Facebook, an officer from GMP's Leigh, Atherton and Hindley warned residents about the dispersal order.

They said: "There will be a dispersal order put into place on Abram ward affecting Platt Bridge running from Saturday, September 26 12pm for a period of 24 hours.

"This will give neighbourhood and response officers additional powers to disperse people within the area. Thank you for your continued support."
