Police issue bogus workmen warning after residents scammed in Scots village

Police have issued a warning after bogus workmen targeted several residents in a Scots village.

The alarm was raised by concerned homeowners in Ormiston, East Lothian, after men arrived at their properties and offered to do manual labour.

The work, which included clearing gutter and cleaning roof tiles, was either not done or was poorly completed despite homeowners forking out various amounts of cash.

Officers are now asking residents to be aware of the bogus workmen who were seen travelling in a white Ford Transit van registration number EF64DJV.

Investigators say enquiries into the incidents, which took place on June 10 and 11, remain ongoing and Trading Standards have been informed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3514 13/6/20.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
