Police issue appeal for information after pensioner is hit by recovery vehicle

Police have issued an appeal for information after a pensioner was knocked down in Hamilton on Monday, August 16.

The 65-year-old woman is currently fighting for her life after being struck by a recovery vehicle as she crossed Townhead Street at around 1.30pm.

She was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow where she remains suffering from life threatening injuries.

Emergency services were quick to the scene and the A723 Blackswell Lane and Barncluith Road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Sgt. Craig McDonald told Lanarkshire Live : "Although we have spoken to a number of people who were at the scene at the time, we are still keen to hear from anyone who was there but who has not yet come forward.

"We are especially keen to hear from motorists with dash-cam footage or from anyone who may have seen the lady, who is well known in the area and who walks with a three wheeled mobility aid, just prior to the collision."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
