Police issue amber alert for abducted girl in New York believed to be 'in imminent danger'

Police have issued an Amber Alert for a 12-year-old girl believed to be in "imminent danger" and travelling to New York City

The alert was issued on Thursday for Malaya M Johnson, a black female child who was abducted in Hudson Falls, New York around 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

She was reportedly picked up in a red Ford Mustang while wearing light red jeans and a white tank top. She was also holding a light coloured backpack when she was abducted, according to police.

"The child was then under circumstances that lead police to believe that she is in imminent danger of serious physical injury and/or death," the Amber Alert read.

The 12-year-old has long brown hair, brown eyes, and stands five feet tall. She weighs 115 pounds.

The Ford Mustang in which Ms Johnson was reportedly abducted featured two doors and an unknown license plate.

The vehicle may have been occupied by two Latino men, NBC New York reported Thursday.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office has requested any information from anyone surrounding Ms Johnson’s whereabouts. Residents can call 911 or dial 866-NYS-AMBER to provide a tip.

The Amber Alert system is used across the country in all 50 states and US territories, as well as Washington, the US Virgin Islands and 22 other countries.

The system is responsible for successfully recovering 924 children by disseminating photos and information involving abducted persons.
