Police involved in 'two vehicle collision' while responding to separate crash in Newtownards

Police responding to a crash in Newtownards have been involved in a separate two vehicle collision.

The Ballyblack Road was closed in both directions on Thursday evening after reports of a 'serious road traffic collision'.

A statement from the Police Service of Northern Ireland said: "Officers responding to a serious road traffic collision in the Ballyblack Road area of Newtownards this evening, Thursday November 18th were involved in a separate two vehicle road traffic collision on the Ballyblack Road East.

"Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life threatening."

The Ballyblack Road and other roads in the surrounding area remain closed at this time.

An earlier statement from the PSNI read: "Please avoid Ballyblack Road and Ballyblack Road East and surrounding roads.

"There have been two serious Road Traffic Collisions in the vicinity and a large amount of emergency services are dealing.

"These roads are liable to be closed for some time.

"Please be aware your journey may be diverted and some access to homes affected."
