A suspect arrested after a man was killed in a Boxing Day car crash has been released under investigation.

The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash took place on the Southway dual carriageway near Bone Island and led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man from Skelmersdale.

He was questioned on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs

Lancashire Police today confirmed he had been released pending further inquiries and that the investigation into the circumstances of the crash was ongoing.

The force is appealing for information and would like to speak to anybody who saw it, saw either the pedestrian or Skoda in the moments before it happened or who has dashcam or CCTV showing any part of the incident.

Speaking in the aftermath of the crash Sergeant Martin Wilcock, of Lancashire Police, said: “This was a tragic incident and first and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“We are now working extremely hard to piece together what happened and are asking anybody with information about this collision to get in touch.

“If you have any information at all, please let us know.”

Anybody with information can contact Lancashire Police by calling 101, quoting log 1076 of December 26.
