Police have been visiting schools in the Backwell area following reports of an attempted abduction of a young girl.

Following further investigations, police say that although two men were seen in the area acting suspiciously, no abduction attempt was made.

A police spokesman said: “On Saturday 22 February we received reports of an attempted abduction in Garstons Close, Backwell.

“The report was a genuine one and made in good faith.

“But following investigations we are now satisfied that while men were acting in a suspicious manner, no abduction attempt was made.

“We take all such reports very seriously.

“The family did the right thing by reporting it to us as it allowed us to investigate what happened.

“Police officers are attending schools today to provide further reassurance.

“If anyone has any further information about what happened, call 101 and give the call-handler reference number 5220043854.”
