Police investigating woman's death in Broome

Police have cordoned off a house on Streeter Avenue in Broome, where a woman suffered serious head injuries and later died.

Perth detectives have been sent to Broome to investigate the death of a woman there overnight.

Police said the woman, aged in her 40s, was found in her home with serious head injuries, just after 4:15pm on Thursday.

She was taken to Broome Hospital for treatment but later died as a result of her injuries.

Police have cordoned off a crime scene outside the Streeter Avenue unit, with Homicide Squad detectives due to arrive and take carriage of the investigation this afternoon.

The ABC understands the woman was attacked in the front yard of the property.

Neighbours told the ABC the street was normally very quiet, and it was shocking to see police parked outside the woman's house on Friday morning.

One resident said locals would help police with their investigation as best they could.

"I don't think anything has happened like this before on the street … we're good friends with most of the neighbours, and as far as I would be aware this hasn't happened before," she said.

"If I knew the woman that was involved in the incident and her family, we'd definitely give them some support."

Detectives have also spent the morning at a separate property in the Cable Beach area and spoken to several people.

A man has been arrested and taken to Broome Police Station, where police say he is assisting with their inquiries.

The man has not been charged.

Police say they do not have any ongoing concerns for public safety.
