Police investigating wilful fire-raising in Lanarkshire street

Police are currently investigating a report of a wilful fire-raising in Harthill.

A Peugeot 407 parked in Edinburgh Road was set on fire at approximately 2am on February 14.

A Police Scotland spokesman told us : “Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire and believe it to have been a deliberate act.

"Police are carrying out enquiries into the report at present.”

In separate incident, officers are also investigating after a number of items were taken within vehicles in Harthill between 10pm on February 11 and 3am on February 13.

The incidents took place on Victoria Road, Deer Path and Beechbank Cottages.

In all cases a person has gained entry to a parked car and stolen items from within these items range from sunglasses, aftershave, bags and money.

PC Michael Steenson told Lanarkshire Live : “Please ensure you have locked and secured your vehicle when you are not in it.

“Even when just stepping inside for a moment it is vital that your car is locked and secure to prevent theft.

"If you have a camera or video doorbell utilise it to overlook any driveway or parking area provided it is possible, suitable and within accordance with domestic CCTV regulations as this will aid with the detection of any crime or potential crime.

“Ensure any vehicles are parked in a well-lit area where possible.”
