Police investigating whether ex-Police Minister's dad linked to fatal hit and run

Former NSW Police Minister Troy Grant, whose father Kenneth has been charged.

Police are investigating whether there is any connection between former Police Minister Troy Grant's father - who has been charged over a drink driving and pursuit incident - and a fatal hit and run at Bolwarra.

Kenneth Grant, 70, was charged with mid-range PCA and police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly after police saw a Mazda BT50 utility travelling south on Belmore Road, Lorn on Saturday night.

The Highway Patrol police were responding to a fatal collision on Flat Road, which claimed the life of a 62-year-old male pedestrian.

Police tried to pull over the ute, but claim the driver failed to stop, which triggered a pursuit.

The low speed pursuit travelled through several streets, stopping on High Street after the ute mounted a footpath, according to police.

Mr Grant underwent a roadside breath test, and allegedly returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where a subsequent breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.108.

A police spokesperson said officers were trying to establish if the incident was connected to the fatal hit-and-run, but were yet to confirm any link. Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit are investigating.

Mr Grant received conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Wednesday, December 18. His licence was also suspended.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have dashcam vision to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
