Police investigating whether driver had medical episode after three car crash in Salford

Police are investigating whether a driver may have suffered a medical episode following a three car crash in Salford.

It happened on Liverpool Road in Irlam at around 5pm on Saturday evening, November 21.

A blue BMW and two other cars were involved in a collision.

Police, paramedics and fire crews all attended with the road being shut off whilst emergency services dealt with the aftermath.

Three damaged cars could be seen at the scene, including a red coloured estate whose front end had collided with a wall.

The BMW was situated around 150ft away from the other vehicles.

Debris from the crash had also been propelled into the gardens of nearby properties.

Three people had already exited their vehicles when crews arrived the fire service said.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said one person was injured however their injuries were not believed to be serious.

Eyewitnesses suggested one of the drivers may have suffered a medical episode.

The spokesman confirmed officers investigating the crash were aware of this.

No arrests had been made he added.

The road remained closed for around three hours before re-opening around 8pm.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 5pm on Saturday 21 November, one fire engine from Irlam fire station was called to a report of a road traffic collision involving three cars on Liverpool Road, Irlam.

“Three people had self-rescued prior to the crew’s arrival, and firefighters made the scene safe before handing over to colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service.
