Husband taken into custody as police investigate death of 82yo woman

Police arrived at the scene early on Sunday to begin a forensic investigation of the home.

Police are investigating after paramedics found an elderly woman dead in the bedroom of a home south of Brisbane early on Sunday morning.

Her 83-year-old husband was arrested and taken to the Beenleigh watch house but has not been charged.

The body of the 82-year-old woman, a retired teacher, was discovered at the home in Kingston, Logan, at about 1:00am.

Officers would not say if she had injuries, but the house has been declared a crime scene.

Their son, Joe Hu, arrived at the scene from Bundaberg about noon. He was met by forensic teams scouring the house.

Kneeling in front of the family home, Mr Hu bowed to the ground in a show of respect.

He said his father had returned from a year-long trip to China earlier this year and had begun acting differently.

"I am very sad today. I really don't know how to face my father," he said.

"My mum was a teacher, she was very nice."

Neighbours said the couple were often heard talking loudly on their regular morning walks.

But Valieriu Pacuraru, who is a cleaner at the Romanian Baptist Church across the road, said he last saw the couple earlier in the week holding hands.

"I saw them on Tuesday afternoon when I came into get the bins out." he said.

"They were holding hands, very nice.

"I never hear them fighting."

Mr Pacuraru said the man had visited the church last Sunday and appeared distressed.

"He hasn't come back since. It was a mystery what he wanted tell us," he said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
