Police investigating stabbing find £10K cannabis crop in home

Police investigating a stabbing entered a St George home and found a cannabis crop.

A total 17 cannabis plants were found being grown, with an estimated worth of some £3,500 to £9,500.

Thea Ivers, 26, of Weavers Mill Close, pleaded guilty to producing a controlled drug of Class B cannabis on January 23.

On Wednesay, November 4, at Bristol Crown Court, Judge Mark Horton handed her a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He told Ivers: "You need to walk away from some of your associates and the life you have been living."
The judge also gave Ivers a community order in which she must be supervised for 12 months and carry out 15 days of rehabilitation.

He imposed a £122 victim surcharge and reserved any breaches in the case to be dealt with by him.

Ramin Pakrooh, prosecuting, told the court police found the cannabis crop being grown in a small bedroom.

He said it was a sophisticated set up, not just for personal consumption, with a potential harvest worth almost £10,000.

Mr Pakrooh said: "The electricity had not been bypassed.

"A sophisticated lighting system would have used significant electricity on a pay-as-you-go meter in the house."

Peter Binder, defending, told the court: "Miss Ivers has no previous convictions.

"She is 4ft 11in tall.

"She is not your typical drug dealer by any stretch of the imagination.

"She is quite a vulnerable, delicate, very frightened young lady.

"She has remorse and there is no reason to believe she is ever likely to get involved in the criminal justice system again."
