Police investigating shooting initially mistaken for fireworks find a bullet

Police investigating a shooting which was initially mistaken for fireworks being set off have recovered a bullet.

Officers were scrambled to a house on Longton Road, in Blackley, at 5.20pm on Sunday (November 29).

Emergency workers were responding to a report of 'a firework aimed at an address', but they later discovered evidence of 'a firearms discharge'.

An investigation was launched and police have now confirmed that they have recovered a bullet.

Work is ongoing to identify the weapon used, the GMP spokesperson also confirmed.

Nobody was injured during the incident and nobody has been arrested at this stage.

Longton Road was cordoned off on Tuesday afternoon (December  2) - two days after the incident.

Tactical Aid Unit vans, Crime Scene Investigation vans and police dogs were spotted at the scene.

Police were in the area until around 5pm on Tuesday.

In a statement issued yesterday (Wednesday), a police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 5.20pm on Sunday 29 November 2020 to a report of a firework aimed at an address on Longton Road, Blackley.

“Enquiries have since established evidence of a firearms discharge and an investigation is underway.

“No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.”
