Police investigating serious sexual offence in alleyway near University of Leeds

Police are investigating a serious sexual offence against a woman in an alleyway near the University of Leeds.

An adult female was approached by a man in a baseball cap on Woodhouse Lane, close to the junction with St Marks Avenue, at about 1.50am this morning.

He subjected her to a serious sexual offence in an alleyway off Woodhouse Lane.

The assault stopped when a passer-by came to help the victim and disturbed the suspect.

He then ran away down Woodhouse Lane in the direction of Leeds city centre.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, thin and as having short dark hair.  He was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap.

Detective Inspector James Entwistle of Leeds District CID, said:  “We are conducting a number of enquiries into this serious incident and are supporting the victim who has been left very distressed.

“I am appealing for information and witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw what took place, or who saw the suspect running away from the scene.

“There were also a number of vehicles driving past at the time and it is possible someone may have seen the suspect or captured footage on a dashcam which could assist the investigation.

Anyone who has footage or information is asked to contact Leeds District CID on 101 referencing log 152 of November 30.

Information can also be given online at  www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat   or anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 55 111.
