Police investigating "savage assault" during which man was cable tied by masked intruders

A man needed hospital treatment on Christmas Eve following a "savage assault" during which he was cable tied by masked intruders.

Police say they are investigating the incident in Dunloy, Co Antrim as an aggravated burglary.

The PSNI said they received a report around 10.50pm on December 24, that three masked men had forced their way into a property on the village's Moyan Road and assaulted the male occupant leaving him with injuries that required hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector McKenna said: "This was a savage assault during which the victim was cable tied and assaulted. He was punched around the face and head and left with cuts and bruises to his body and an eye injury.

"This was a brutal attack, which was terrifying for the victim, and happened on Christmas Eve, a time when people should be relaxing and looking forward to Christmas Day.

"Our enquiries into this attack, what exactly happened and a motive for it are continuing. In the meantime, we're keen to hear from anyone who was in the area between 10:30pm and 10:45pm to get in touch with us.
