Police investigating Merewether aggravated robbery release CCTV

Newcastle police released the images on Monday, saying they believe the men depicted can assist with their investigation.

POLICE are seeking public help after an aggravated robbery in Merewether on Saturday afternoon.

Investigators on Monday released CCTV images as part of an appeal into the Lloyd Street incident, which occurred about 3pm.

A 45-year-old man parked a blue BMW M2 and sat down on a nearby bench.

A short time later three men arrived in a Toyota Kluger four-wheel drive, which police believe was stolen from Islington on Friday.

The trio approached the 45-year-old and punched him before taking his keys, wallet and phone.

The men left in the BMW and were last seen heading west towards Scenic Drive, police said.

Officers released the images of three men in the hopes the people pictured can help with their inquiries.

Police described the men as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in their mid-20s. One is described as solidly built with a mohawk and ponytail. He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie.

A second man is described as slim and was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.

Anyone who has seen a blue BMW M2 coupe with registration DSS 71W is also urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
