A section of the westbound carriageway was closed between J5 and J9 for 11 hours while an investigation was carried out.

The 48-year-old woman, who was the passenger on the white Honda motorbike was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

A man, 43, who was driving, was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert with non-life threatening injuries.

Sergeant John Lang, of Police Scotland’s Forth Valley Road Policing Unit, said: "We are appealing to other road users who may have witnessed the crash to get in contact with police.

"One woman has sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident and we are keen to establish the full circumstances.

"I would ask if anyone was driving in the area at the time or has possible dashcam footage that could assist with our investigation that they get in touch with officers.

"Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 2171 of 16/02/21.”
