Firefighters from Wallsend station were alerted to the fire just before 11.30pm on Thursday.

One fire engine was sent to the scene and a crew put out the blaze, but the car was already wrecked by the flames.

The interior of the car has been exposed after the fire ripped over the vehicle.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 11.26pm and sent one crew from Wallsend station.

They left the scene after around an hour.
