Police investigating fatal boat crash off Stradbroke Island

Queensland Police are investigating a fatal boat crash that happened in the Canaipa Passage. near North Stradbroke Island on Friday.

A 30-year-old man died after the tinny crashed into a maritime marker between Short Island and North Stradbroke Island at about 11 o'clock in the morning.

The 52-year-old male driver was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with facial injuries.

Queensland Ambulance Service said members of the public tried to help the man but he died at the scene.

Acting office in charge at Pimpama Ambulance Station Oliver Nicol said paramedics were assisted by Volunteer Marine Rescue and Queensland Fisheries.

"All of the people involved provided resuscitation to best effort that they could and this gentleman received excellent first aid," he said.

"Bystanders provided first aid immediately.

"We would like to encourage everybody to be safe around the water."
