Police investigating deliberate fire in new housing estate

Police are investigating after two unoccupied houses on a new housing estate were torched last night.

Residents of the new housing estate in Brookfield, Johnstone, raised the alarm shortly before 7pm on Friday evening.

Three fire appliances raced to Merchiston Oval on the new estate where two new-build, two-storey detached houses, which were still under construction, were ablaze.

No-one was injured as a result of the fires, however, approximately £500,000 worth of damage has been caused.

Using two main jets and one high reach, the fire was finally declared over by 11.10pm.

Firefighters contacted Paisley police about the incident and they attended at 7pm.
