Police investigating the death of a man in Tameside are no longer treating it as suspicious.
Officers were called just after 2pm yesterday by the ambulance service to reports that a man’s body had been found at a property on Holland Road, Hyde.
A statement this evening from Greater Manchester Police read: "Enquiries have established that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
"A 40-year-old man was arrested but he has since been released and faces no further action."
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Chatterton, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.
“We have taken all the necessary steps to conduct a thorough investigation and our extensive enquiries, alongside a Home Office post mortem, have helped us establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death and they are not suspicious.
"The man who was in custody, assisting us with our investigation, has been released and faces no further action.
“I understand that rumours and the increased police presence created some concern in the community so I hope this update reassures members of the public. I would like to use this opportunity to reiterate that the man’s death is not linked to Covid-19.”
