Police investigating assault at Labour candidate Natalie Fleet's campaign office

A police investigation has been launched after reports that an assault happened at a Labour candidate's campaign office.

Officers were called to Natalie Fleet's campaign office at 10.20am on Thursday, November 15, following reports of an assault.

Natalie Fleet, a trade union worker from Sutton, has replaced the former Labour MP for Ashfield, Gloria De Pierro, as a candidate.

The mum-of-four, 35, who left school at 16 while pregnant with her first child, said she was 'honoured and thrilled' to have been selected.

Labour currently holds the seat with a majority of just 441.

It has not been revealed who was allegedly assaulted or carried out the alleged assault.

It has also not been revealed whether Mrs Fleet was present when the incident occurred.

Nottinghamshire Live contacted the Labour Party for a comment, but a spokeswoman said: "We do not comment on ongoing police investigations."

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "Nottinghamshire Police are investigating a report of an assault at a business premises in Outram Street, Sutton in Ashfield which was reported at 10.20am on Thursday 15 November.

"Officers’ enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident."

No arrests have been made.

This is the second incident that is being investigated by police at the Labour parliamentary candidate's headquarters.

Two days later, on Sunday, November 17, officers were called after windows were smashed at the building.
