Police investigating arson after fire breaks out at flat in Longsight

Police have launched an arson investigation after fire broke out at a flat in Longsight.

The early hours blaze started at a property on Stanley Grove, in the Manchester suburb, at around 12.20am on Saturday (July 20).

Firefighters raced to the scene and spent more than three hours working to tackle the flames and make the area safe.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed that the incident is being treated as arson.

A person has been arrested, they said. Nobody was injured.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters found the front door of the property ablaze when they arrived.

"We were called at 12.20am today to Stanley Grove in Longsight following reports of a fire at a flat," a spokesperson for the service said.

"Three units from Gorton and Phillips Park attended and used pressure ventilation units, breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the fire.

"They spent three hours and ten minutes at the scene."

They confirmed that nobody had to be rescued from the flat and nobody was injured during the blaze.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Fire officers have now passed the case to Greater Manchester Police.
