Police investigating alleged rape release CCTV image of man they need to speak to

Detectives investigating an alleged rape in Newcastle city centre have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

Officers have already made an arrest in the case but believe the man in the images could help them with their enquiries.

The report was initially made to police last year and after following up a number of lines of enquiry a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

He has since been released under investigation.

Detectives are now looking to identify a different man as he may hold information which could assist the investigation further.

The image was taken in Newcastle city centre in the early hours of Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Detective Constable Lynne Thompson-Hogg from Northumbria Police , who is leading the investigation, said: “We appreciate some time has now passed since the image was taken, however we hope that the person will recognise themselves or someone will know who they are.

“Over the last year, we have been following up a number of lines of enquiry and as a result a man has been arrested in relation to the case.

“We are now appealing for the man in the CCTV to come forward as he may have information which could assist our investigation further.”

The individual or anyone who knows him is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 779 16/06/18  or report online via the Northumbria Police website or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
