Police are investigating the alleged assault of a HMP Frankland inmate by prison officers.
The incident is alleged to have happened during the restraint of an inmate inside the prison - notorious for serious criminals.
The complaint was made following the incident at the County Durham jail on April 13
A Prison Service spokesman said no one was taken to hospital.
He added: “This allegation is being investigated by the police and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
