Police investigating after man is attacked after being approached by vehicle in Seaham

An investigation is under way after a man was assaulted in County Durham.

It is believed to have happened at around 6am on July 27 when the victim was walking past Tonia’s Café, on North Road, in Seaham.

The man was approached by three people in a blue vehicle who pulled up beside him and spoke with him before driving off towards Ryhope.

Minutes later, the vehicle turned around and drove back towards the victim.

Police say that a man with ginger hair then got out of the car and assaulted the victim leaving him with several injuries.

They are now searching for those involved.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police are now keen to trace the vehicle and its occupants.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information is asked to call PC Owen on 101 quoting incident number 50 of July 27."
