Police investigating after firework shot through letterbox in St Ann's

Police are investigating after fireworks were shot through a letterbox in St Ann's last night.

The fireworks started a fire at the property in Botany Avenue at 7.30pm on Friday, October 30.

The resulting fire caused damage at the home, but no-one was injured as a result.

Police say incidents like this are very serious - and they are increasing patrols in the area.

St Ann's beat manager Brian Dacunha, who is leading the investigation, said: "Nottinghamshire Police is committed to investigating reports of suspicious incidents thoroughly.

"Officers were made aware of a report of criminal damage to a house in Botany Avenue in St Ann's last night.

"Officers were swiftly at the scene following the call at 7.30pm and conducted patrols in the area.

"It was reported that a lit firework was put through a letterbox, which caused a small fire and damage within the property.

"Incidents like these are very serious and we are doing everything we can to track down the offenders.

"We are lucky that no one was injured or worse following the incident.

"We have increased our visible patrols in these areas and we are raising awareness within the communities.

"Extra eyes and ears looking out for the perpetrators of firework offences will help us to identify those committing them and deal with them accordingly. We are actively looking for the suspects to prevent further incidents.

"We are now investigating and appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to call us directly by ringing 101, quoting incident number 607 of 29 October 2020."
