Police investigating after child dies in Somerset school trip crash

  • A child died and 21 people were injured after a school coach overturned on the A396 at Cutcombe Hill in Exmoor, Somerset.
  • The coach, carrying year-five pupils from Minehead Middle School, was returning from a trip to Exmoor Zoo when it went off road and slid 20ft down a bank on Thursday afternoon.
  • Avon and Somerset Police declared a major incident, with emergency services sending 46 resources, including three air ambulances, to the scene.
  • Two children were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, while other passengers sustained minor injuries or were unharmed.
  • An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash, with police urging the public not to speculate.
