Police investigating after cars set alight in suspected arson attack in Newcastle

Detectives have launched an investigation after three cars were set alight in a suspected arson attack in Newcastle.

At about 2.35am in the early hours of Tuesday morning police received a report that three vehicles were on fire on Ryal Walk in the Kenton area of the city.

Emergency services attended and the fires were extinguished.

Nobody was in the vehicles at the time and nobody was injured in the blaze.

Detectives believe a business van was set on fire initially before two cars parked next to it were also set alight.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing but officers have been reviewing CCTV, carrying out house-to-house inquiries and looking for evidence.

And now Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Rana is appealing for any witnesses to the arson attacks to get in touch with police.

She said: "This is a serious incident and we are working closely with detectives in our CID to establish exactly what has happened.

"Three vehicles have been set on fire and this poses a number of significant dangers. Thankfully nobody has been hurt as a result of the arson.

"We are carrying out extensive inquiries that include CCTV trawls and using our forensic capabilities but we need witnesses to get in touch.

"If you saw anything on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday morning then please get in touch with police. The smallest piece of information could be vital."

If you can assist police then call 101 quoting log 83 16/07/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
