Police are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into the alleged sexual assault of a woman on the state's Central Coast at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a car park near Panorama Avenue at Charmhaven around 12.10am on Sunday, following reports a woman aged in her late 20s had been sexually assaulted by an unknown person in a nearby park.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and the woman was taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District conducted an extensive search of the area; however, the person was not found.

A crime scene was established and has been examined by specialist forensic officers.

Local police, with assistance from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, have commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Snowsill.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information, or dashcam vision from the area, to notify Tuggerah Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers and reference Strike Force Snowsill.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
