Police investigate second Sunderland vehicle fire in two days

Police are investigating after a second vehicle was set on fire in Ryhope in two days.

Officers were called to Grey Terrace, Ryhope, Sunderland, at around 4.45am on Wednesday, September 2, after reports from the fire service that a vehicle was on fire.

The force has since appealed for anyone who noticed anything suspicious to contact the police.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At about 4.45am we received a report from the fire service of a vehicle on fire on Grey Terrace in Ryhope.

"Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing and anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 111 02/09/20."

It comes after police were called to a van fire shortly after 2.20am on Tuesday, September 1, outside an address on Esdale - although police said the two incidents are not linked at this time.

An investigation has since been launched into the van fire which is currently being treated as suspected arson.
