Another Melbourne private school has been embroiled in a sex scandal after allegations male students were sharing explicit images of their female classmates at an elite school in St Kilda East.
The allegations relate to students at St Michael’s Grammar school, who had reportedly been using Dropbox to share images, including nude images of girls in years 10 and 11.
A spokeswoman from Victoria police said detectives had spoken to a 16-year-old boy over allegations of “inappropriate images being distributed by students”.
The principal of St Michael’s, Simon Gipson, said the school informed police after being made aware of the issue by a student. He confirmed that a St Michael’s student was now the subject of a police investigation.
“While we cannot comment on action taken, we continue to make all decisions according to our behavioural expectations framework, which is based on our core values of dignity, respect, care and compassion,” Gipson said on Thursday.
“We have a strong commitment to supporting the welfare of our students and we will continue to protect all members of our school community from antisocial behaviour.
“As such, if police investigations confirm that any student has breached our behavioural expectations, we apply the most severe consequences.”
Last month another elite Melbourne school, Brighton Grammar, expelled two students over an Instagram account that featured photos of girls as young as 11, some taken without their knowledge, and invited followers to vote for “slut of the year”.
The school has reportedly identified a number of other students connected to the issue and submitted them to “re-education and counselling.”
And last week students at Melbourne Grammar school were reprimanded for a video, dubbed “Tinder boot camp” after the dating app, which featured boys rating their formal dates out of 10 and included one boy saying: “This is Grammar boys – that means nothing, and I mean nothing, under a seven.”
