Police investigate link between Kaleen ram raid and Canberra Centre attempted burglary

An ATM, glass doors and a bench at the shopping centre were damaged in the ram raid.

A ram raid at Kaleen Plaza in the early hours of Saturday morning could be linked to an attempted burglary from a pay parking machine at the Canberra Centre an hour earlier, according to ACT police.

Officers said about 4:10am the glass sliding doors of the Kaleen shopping centre were smashed as a car drove into the complex in an attempt to steal an ATM.

While the ATM was damaged, along with a bench seat within the plaza, police said no money had been taken from the machine and it remained in place.

Police were at the scene earlier this morning collecting evidence, but nobody has been charged over the incident.

An hour earlier, at 3:10am, three men were captured on CCTV trying to break into a pay parking machine at the Canberra Centre in Civic.

Police said the men damaged the pay station but again did not succeed in getting away with any money.

Officers said the men were driving a maroon-coloured Commodore sedan with two stolen numberplates.

The front plate had Victorian registration ZWI584 and the rear plate had ACT registration YEJ07R.

Anyone with information on either incident or who may have dash-cam footage of the maroon sedan has been urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
