Police are investigating a horrific attack in London’s West End that left a soldier in smart mess uniform with a fractured skull, cheekbone and eye sockets.

The shocking assault took place earlier this year on January 31.

Scotland Yard said the 28-year-old soldier was targeted on Haymarket, at the junction with Coventry Street, near Piccadilly Circus Tube station, at about 3.20am.

His injuries were so severe he required “extensive surgeries” to correct, police said.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with the attack.

In a statement, the force said: “Detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak with in connection with this incident. Can you name him?

“Anyone who can identify the male is asked to contact Westminster CID by dialling 101 and quoting Cad 675/31Jan, Tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
