Police investigate fatal shooting of 16-year-old Montreal boy in city's east end

Montreal police are investigating the killing of a 16-year-old boy who was shot in the city's Saint-Michel neighbourhood on Sunday night.

Police say they received a call at around 9 p.m. about gunshots in the residential area in the northeast of the city.

The victim, who was not known to the police, was found unconscious on the ground, and his death was later confirmed at the scene.

Police say the teenager died from one or more gunshots to the upper body.

Investigators have not identified a suspect, and they are meeting with witnesses to establish the circumstances of the shooting.

The investigation of the 31st homicide this year on the island of Montreal has been transferred to the police force's major crimes unit.
