Police are searching for a white dual-cab ute with a distinctive black tray and black rims after a series of suspicious fires during a heatwave in South Australia.

About eight grassfires were deliberately lit on the Adelaide Plains within the span of five hours on Friday.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blazes and there was minimal damage but given the sweltering heat, the risk to the community raised serious concerns.

"It was a really average day weather-wise yesterday and the police and CFS did a fantastic job in responding to these fires," SA Police Chief Inspector Lauren Leverington told reporters on Saturday.

"They were put out reasonably quickly by air and ground support and they resulted in small losses of property but no structural or loss of life."

It's still unclear whether all eight blazes were lit by the same person.

Police remained in the area overnight and an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is being urged to call Crime Stoppers.

The Country Fire Service continues to fight bushfires across the state, which is enduring its worst run of hot weather since December 2019, with the mercury recently climbing close to 38C in Adelaide.
