Police investigate death of woman found in South Melbourne

The circumstances surrounding the woman's death have not been determined.

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in South Melbourne on Monday.

Police officers were called to a property in Park Street about 2:15pm where they found the 26-year-old's body.

The circumstances surrounding the woman's death have not been determined.

Homicide Squad detectives are at the scene and are investigating.

Park Street resident Anastasia Kailis said it was "traditionally a really quiet street".

Ms Kailis said she was woken in the early hours of Monday morning to "a lot of noise" and her two dogs barking.

"Bins being thrown around, rubbish being thrown around, a lot of rustling noise," she said.

Ms Kailis said the noise was coming from the property directly across from where the woman's body was found.

"It sounded like someone was going into a huge, big suitcase and throwing everything out," she said.

"It was most unusual for a particularly quiet street."

Ms Kailis said she did not hear any yelling or screaming and did not call the police.

"I looked through the window but felt uncomfortable coming out onto the street at 3:00am. I couldn't see anything," she said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
